Telehealth for Behavioral Health Services During COVID-19

Updated: Mar 18, 2020

Telehealth has traditionally been used to support clients in rural area who have barriers that limit their ability to receive traditional services. It is provided using digital technology to connect remotely face to face by phone or computer. We are now faced with the need to offer and encourage it with all clients due to limiting contact with others and practice social distancing to slow down the number of COVID-19 cases impacting the health and well-being of our community.

The flexibility that telehealth provides gives clients the means to continue with treatment as well as make it possible to begin treatment during these unique current events. In our practice, we have seen the benefits of telehealth. It has allowed our clients to continue treatment while on maternity leave, while receiving cancer treatment or when a last-minute meeting makes commuting from work difficult. Studies have shown that telehealth treatment can offer the same level of quality care to clients that is provided during in-person sessions.

The technology being used by our therapists is HIPAA compliant; therefore, you can be reassured that your privacy and security is protected. The secure and easy tools we use make telehealth treatment a smooth transition for those with access to internet and a computer or smart phone.

We understand that minor glitches in a connection or not understanding how to get started can be a barrier to some; we are here to help and guide you. Our therapists have adequate experience with these technical tools to assist you in getting set up for your remote sessions. We have made adjustments by improving our internet speed and connection, invested in a telehealth platform that is simple to use and are committed to problem-solving any issues that arise – we are devoted to providing this service with the same level of attentiveness as our in-person sessions with you.

We are diligently checking telehealth benefits for our clients and will provide this information to all new referrals upon scheduling. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the use or benefits of telehealth treatment, please reach out to one of our therapists; we are here for you during this unprecedented world event.
